The team
Piet Briët
Piet has an academic background in Tax Law. After university, he worked in several European countries for an oil and chemical storage company, where at that time, steps were taken to create storage possibilities for biomass, biofuels and pellets. It was here that he got acquainted with the ‘world’ of sustainability.
‘I joined IMSA in November 2008. In my ambition to be active and productive for a sustainable environment, I found IMSA playing a major role in this field for many years already. One cannot change the world overnight; but at IMSA we try, by approaching the existing and future paradigms undogmatically, to make relevant changes for the short and medium term.
I believe in a “realistic” economy, with a clear function for the government in society and in which scarcity and depletion are given a role. I believe governments should make choices in this time, since the technology and enthusiasm to implement “green” ideas about investments and returns in a sustainable society are already there at company and public level.
I live in Amsterdam and I have a little boat with which I like to wander the canals. I also enjoy sailing and mountain sports, I (try to) play the piano and have an interest in modern and contemporary art. At IMSA, I fulfill the position of senior consultant. In this project management role, I work on projects with other organisations and programmes which strive to combine economic and sustainable profits. An example is the Suriname Bulkwater project. I am also taking part in organising the General Assembly 2009 of the Club of Rome in Amsterdam. In these projects, challenges are met to stimulate people to act sustainable, make a profit and to have fun in the process.’
